Clinton Correctional Institution
The Clinton Correctional Institution, located in the Town of Raymond, near the Capital City of Raleigh, is a level II/III facility housing adult male inmates. CCF currently houses approximately 2,250 inmates in five housing units. The facility opened in 1959 and houses approximately 500 state inmates that are under the jurisdiction of the State of North Carolina.
The facility has a fully operational electrical generating plant that provides power to the facility, the farm complex, and the laundry department. In addition, CCF also houses approximately 300 male offenders who are incarcerated under federal jurisdiction through the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Clinton's mail center processes more than 100,000 pieces of mail a year. In addition, the facility has an extensive library of over 23,000 books and periodicals that are available to inmates.

Lanesboro Correctional Institution
Lanesboro is located in Polk County near the confluence of the Pee Dee River and South Toe River; the site was formerly occupied by a small plantation house and a small number of cabins for slaves working on the cotton farm. The original location of Lanesboro was about six miles up the Saluda River but was moved to its present location in 1810 for defense purposes during the War of 1812.
Lanesboro first housed all-black inmates in 1908; the county jail held both black and white convicts. Whites were later moved into the county jail, while blacks were relocated to a new segregated facility in Pitt County. Following the Civil War, black inmates were brought to Lanesboro en masse until segregation ended in the late 1960s. Today, LCI houses approximately 1,200 adult male and female inmates, including federal and state inmates.

Chowan County Correctional Facility (CCCC)- Southern Pines, NC
CCCC is a Level III female institution that has a capacity of 442 beds. It consists of three dormitory-style housing units that house the four-shift operations of the institution. Each unit consists of a single-story building with two bedrooms and two bunked rooms. The units also contain a utility room, a recreation room, and a laundry room.
There are also two segregation units and the medical housing unit, which has six beds for the infirmary and additional space to house correctional officers. Electronic detection and a high-security fence monitored the perimeter of the institution topped with razor wire surrounding it. Within the fence are several walking paths which are used by staff to transport supplies and prisoners to and from the institution.

Polk Correctional Institution (PCI) -Polkton, NC
The original Polk Correctional Institution was built in late 1963 as an all-male facility and was originally named Vance Correctional Institution after Governor Terry Sanford. The name was changed two years later to honor Governor Charlie B. Perry, who had served as Commissioner of Correction during the construction of the facility.
In 1991, they upgraded the facility from a minimum to medium security facility to accommodate female inmates and began housing women from the Western Youth Institution. In July 2007, I changed the name to Polk Correctional Institution to recognize the outstanding efforts of Commissioner Kenneth Lassiter during his tenure as head of corrections.

Bertie Correctional Institution
The Bertie Correctional Institution is located in Windsor, North Carolina, and serves the entire southern part of the state. It has an authorized capacity of 140 beds and houses, both male and female inmates. They divided the facility into five housing units and an administration building. There is also a recreation area with a basketball court, a softball field, and a soccer field.
There are programs for inmates to help them learn job skills and prepare for life after incarceration. Inmates are encouraged to participate in educational vocational programs while at the institution. Brown and Creek Correctional Institution was opened in July 1993 and were the second large prison built in the state's Eastern Region.
