Prison-level classification in the state of Wisconsin
Level 1 Prison- Community
Level 1 prison inmates are kept in the least restrictive custody care system, formerly known as correctional centers.
Level 2 Prison- Minimum
Level 2 prison inmates are given less freedom than community correctional unit inmates. Still, offenders in these facilities may enjoy more privileges than in Level 3 prisons.
Level 3 Prison- Medium
Medium security facilities have perimeter fencing, and inmates can open and close their own units. Inmate movement is less restrictive than a maximum facility.
Level 4 Prison- Maximum
These facilities have the highest level of security. Inmates assigned with maximum custody are kept here under strict supervision.

Chippewa Valley Correctional Treatment Facility
It is a minimum security facility (Level 2) that opened in 2004. The correctional center has a capacity of 466 male offenders. The Earned Release Program is also offered to the inmates of CVCTF.
Columbia Correctional Institution
It operated in 1986 and could house 830 male inmates. Maximum custody offenders kept here are offered opportunities to participate in vocational education workshops.
Dodge Correctional Institution
With the capacity to hold 1573 male inmates, the center was opened in 1978. The maximum security setup is provided to offenders along with the training programs and other activities that encourage them for eventual release.
Fox Lake Correctional Institution
Fox Lake is a medium security facility for men that could accommodate 1344 adult inmates. The facility was opened in September 1962.
Green Bay Correctional Institution
Green Bay, the maximum security facility was built in 1898. The building can accommodate 1091 male convicts. The facility was initially known as Wisconsin State Reformatory until 1972.
Jackson Correctional Institution
In 1996, Jackson Correctional center was operated as a medium security facility. The prison can accommodate 995 male offenders.
Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution
Opened in 1962, the medium security facility has an accommodation capacity of 1172 male inmates. However, it was built initially to accommodate juvenile offenders and later converted to an adult facility in 1972.
Milwaukee Secure Detention Facility
The building was opened in 2001 with a capacity to hold 246 medium-custody male inmates.

New Lisbon Correctional Institution
Found in Juneau County, New Lisbon was opened in 2004. It is a medium-security correctional center that can accommodate 1015 prisoners.
Oakhill Correctional Institution
The building was built in 1931 and remained vacant for 10 years. In 1976, the Oregon School was converted into Oakhill Correctional center. It can house 690 male inmates of minimum custody.
Oshkosh Correctional Institution
Oshkosh houses medium-custody male inmates. It has an official capacity of more than 2000 criminals. The facility offers sexual abuse treatment, as it mainly houses sex offenders.
Prairie du Chien Correctional Institution
With a capacity to hold 512 medium custody inmates, a housing facility was opened in 1997 known as Prairie du Chien. The facility ensures inmates' safety and the willingness of offenders to improve their well-being by participating in educational and vocational programs.
Racine Correctional Institution
A Level 3 prison that can accommodate 1692 male offenders. Racine aims to bring positivity that could fade negative impacts on offenders through education and programming.
Racine Youthful Offender Correctional Facility
The center has a Level 3 security that accommodates 450 male offenders aged 18-24. The facility has two units each containing 120 cells. It also contains a Restrictive housing unit having 27 beds.
Redgranite Correctional Institution
Redgranite is a Level 3 prison that can accommodate 1,018 male offenders who are encouraged to take part in behavioral development activities.
Stanley Correctional Institution
Stanley is a Level 3 prison that can provide self-development programs to 1,550 male offenders. The center was operated in 1998.
